Describe a journey you were looking forward to but was delayed.
You should say:
where you planned to travel to
why you were looking forward to it
why it had to be delayed
and explain how you felt about the experience.
Part 2
This topic reminds me of a delayed trip to Japan with one of my besties – Maggie.
It was around 5 or 6 years ago. At that time, we were big fans of cherry blossoms, and we believed the best time to travel to Japan was when the flowers were in full bloom. So, we decided to travel to that country in March or April. I was so eager to travel there, and I even asked for five days off from my employer half a year earlier, so you see how much expectation I had. As well as that, in order to capture the gorgeous look of cherry blossoms, I took a pricey course to hone my photography skills. Before setting off, I’d always envisaged myself being surrounded by the pink flowers in Japan, and nothing would have been better than this.
- be eager to do sth.
- hone one's photography skills
- set off 出发
- envisage oneself doing sth.
However, bad news happened out of the blue. Two days before our trip began, Maggie caught a serious fever. She told me that perhaps she couldn’t make it with me and suggested that I travel alone. As soon as I heard this, I was like, “How terrible!” Never had I thought that this would happen to us. I felt totally at sea, simply telling her that I wouldn’t travel to Japan without her. Besides, our visa had a two-year validity, so we would make it sooner or later. So, yeah, later, we had our air tickets refunded and put off our journey.
- sth. happened out of the blue
- feel (totally) at sea
- put off one's journey
Well, the next year, when we had just begun planning our trip to Japan again, there was the outbreak of COVID-19, which destroyed the travel plan again. While we were waiting, our visas expired, which was something that we’d never expected.
Till now, our trip hasn’t happened yet, though the “special pandemic period” has disappeared. Anyway, I’m still looking forward to travelling to Japan with Maggie. I wish both of us could manage some time to make it in our lifetime.
- destroy the travel plan
- manage some time 腾出时间
- make it 达成目标
