A city's cultural ecology extends far beyond museum exhibitions, gallery displays, and landmarks on a map. It also takes shape in artists' studios, independent bookstores, creative enterprises, and the relationships and collaborations that connect them.

A Conversation on Business, Culture, and the City
2026年10月24日，言而履艺术国际（Yan Er Lu Arts International）创始人兼首席执行官康书雅博士受邀参加由中国美国商会与中国意大利商会共同举办的主题早午餐分享会：“艺术赋能成都——商业思维与设计审美如何滋养城市文化”，并在成都托尼洛·兰博基尼酒店发表题为《不止于旅行指南：走进成都的文化生态》的主题演讲。
On October 24, 2026, Dr. Sophia Kidd, Founder and CEO of Yan Er Lu Arts International, delivered a presentation titled Beyond the Guidebook: Entering Chengdu's Cultural Ecology at the Brunch Sharing: Art Empowering Chengdu — How Business and Design Nourish Urban Culture jointly organized by AmCham China Southwest Chapter, at Tonino Lamborghini Hotel Chengdu.
本次活动聚焦商业与城市生活之间的关系。康书雅博士从成都的艺术机构、创意产业与文化社群出发，探讨艺术、商业与城市发展之间的联系，以及如何通过跨文化交流，让成都丰富的本土文化资源与更广阔的国际社会建立连接。
The event explored the relationship between business and urban cultural life. Drawing on Chengdu's art institutions, creative industries, and cultural communities, Dr. Sophia Kidd examined the connections among art, commerce, and urban development, and how cross-cultural exchange can connect the city's cultural resources with a wider international audience.

Five Pathways into Chengdu’s Cultural Ecology

“Culture is not an ornament added after economic development. It is one of the forces through which a city imagines—and builds—its future.”

This idea formed the central premise of Dr. Sophia Kidd’s presentation.
提起成都，人们首先想到的是美食、熊猫、休闲生活与快速发展的城市经济。但在这些熟悉的印象之外，成都还拥有由公共美术馆、民营艺术机构、当代画廊、艺术工作室、独立书店及创意企业共同构成的文化生态。
Chengdu is widely known for its cuisine, pandas, relaxed lifestyle, and dynamic economy. Yet beyond these familiar associations lies a cultural ecology shaped by public museums, private art institutions, contemporary galleries, artists' studios, independent bookstores, and creative enterprises.
这些空间并非孤立存在。
These spaces do not exist in isolation.

康书雅博士
Dr. Sophia Kidd
Sophia Grace Kidd moves at the crossroads of Classical Chinese thought and global contemporary art. Trained at Sichuan University, where she earned her MA and PhD in Classical Chinese Literature, her work weaves philology, philosophy, and aesthetic inquiry into a unified practice. For twenty-five years—fifteen of them immersed in China’s contemporary art world—she has worked as curator, writer, interlocutor, and advocate for cross-cultural understanding.
康书雅教授是一位专注于中国古典文学与中国当代艺术的学者、策展人及出版人，拥有四川大学中国古代文学硕士和博士学位。她在国际艺术界从业25年，其中15年深耕中国当代艺术。
Founding CEO of Yan Er Lu Arts International, publisher at Igneus Press, former Research Fellow at Sichuan University, and now Associate Professor at Sichuan International Studies University, Kidd writes at the intersection of culture and political economy. Her publications include Culture Paves the New Silk Roads (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) and the forthcoming China’s Art of Political Economy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026).

Her approach brings rigorous art historical and philosophical insight into close dialogue with each artist’s work—clarifying its conceptual stakes while amplifying its public presence. Through carefully crafted narratives and strategic visibility, she helps artists locate their audiences.
