Antarctic tourism is evolving quickly, but the countries governing the continent still lack shared criteria for deciding which new activities should be allowed.
A stronger approach asks two questions before approval: Does the activity align with Antarctica’s values, purpose, and unique character? And are its environmental, safety, and regulatory risks acceptable?
Bringing value fit and risk together can support more consistent, proactive, and responsible tourism governance.
